Painter for Iron Gate
Hi All, Was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a person or company to paint the front iron fence/gate and stoop railings on my attached brick home. The fence/gate is a typical iron gate with lots of scroll work with many layers of old paint. Also, any idea what this will cost?

We used Custom Metal Products to scrape and paint our fire escape. The owner – Mr Irving- was responsive. They are a good low cost option

Propane torch and simple scraper, generally (obviously you don’t have any wood-burning worries on a cast iron fence), but had to resort to Peelaway to get the bulk of the paint off the newel posts because of both their intricacy and their being essentially “inside” the stoop railings that come down the steps and wrap around them, thus making access to them a lot more difficult.
John,
How did you get all the old paint off, especially around the intricate scroll work and the newel posts?

3:49 – Thanks for the contact info. I appreciate it and will send an e-mail.
Johnife – Congratulations on a job well done. I’m a bit jealous though and am afraid that I will not be able to afford the kind of job you did or I will just not be happy with the finished job. Unfortunately, I am unable to even attempt to do it myself due to health reasons but to be quite honest even if I was feeling great do not think I would have the patience needed. lol
I did this job myself on the fence and stoop railings in front of my house. The unevenness of the existing paint (previously repainted multiple times over its 130 years of existence without any remediation of flaked-off portions) forced the obsessive-compulsive trait in me to demand that I remove all existing paint before re-painting. I did make an attempt to engage outside help (once my son on vacation from college and once a guy from across the street looking for odd jobs) but came to the conclusion that my own work would be the only work I’d be satisfied with. It was an unbelievably monotonous, messy, backbreaking and lengthy chore! Once finished, though, with rust preventative undercoat and three coats of glossy black lacquer over the bare metal, it looked (and still looks) absolutely fabulous. I don’t know how much a company would charge to do this scope of work but I know that if someone asked me to do it for them I wouldn’t even consider it for less that $8k. I just didn’t have that kind of money lying around at the time. The alternative, of course, would be to just paint over what’s already there, but I’d say, “what’s the point”
Hello There,
I run a small interior house painting business based in Park Slope, Brooklyn and have a contact for someone who might be able to help.
Since it is our off season our go to guy Eric has some time and can handle all of your painting needs. His rates are very reasonable and can estimate based on an hourly or for the whole job. You can provide materials or he can bill it into his estimate. If you are interested he can be reached at ericamlie@gmail.com
Good Luck!
Best, Sope
