CORNICE CO$T$
I received a quote of $10,000 to make a fiberglass cornice replicating those in my neighborhood, and a $8,000 quote to put the thing up (4 story 20 foot wide building). sound reasonable ? has anyone ever had this done ?

here we go again..competitors one saying they are the best the other saying beware of him or me. @ January 7 9:33 How do you know that D&H is a Con??? Which Company do u work for??
@9:33 Are you working for D&H if so, please refrain from posting future post.
I can tell you this: custom work and rubber molds are expensive. My suggestion is that rather then trying to replicate an existing piece, you find something in a similar style using standard profiles that can be bought ‘off the shelf’. Even there you can find it costing money, depending on the complexity of the profile, so shop around. As to having signworkers do the installation, as suggested by one poster, I doubt you would save even a penny, and it could cost you more, since they DONT do this type of work everyday- they hang signs. Instead, I would look for a company that BOTH makes and installs cornices. If something goes wrong, the last thing you want is the manufacturer blaming the installer, and the installer blaming the manufacturer. The simpler your business dealings the better.
Buyer beware
D& H is a con
Townhouse entry doors, custom woodwork, mantles, kitchen cabinets, etc all go for 10k or better. 9:33 why is it surprising that a cornice (4′ x 25′) is as much. Sounds fair to me. Installation is another thing.
$10,000??? whoa..what land are they on?? I have seen another Company who done my managements fiberglass cornice 2612 Broadway Avenue, New York for cheaper price and look pretty much professional. Its 40 Ft. Wide. Their company is called D&H Contracting NY, Inc. they also have a site but its i guess under construction or something its http://dhcontractingny.com and their Tel: 718 398-6693 again i am not the contractor or working for them.
sounds about right if you are the first person to request this cornice and the company has to make the mold. As for installation, its anyone’s guess, but I would think a crane of some sort as well as scaffolding is required. You may want to speak with sign installers, they may give a better deal then a contractor given they do this type of work every day.
What company did you request the quote from? I did some research and found the following company but never requested a quote as I don’t have the appropriate budget for the job…I was guessing it would cost around 10k total…18K seems very high.
