Ok… so the appointment I made with ADT several weeks ago is finally coming up. I deal with them at work and really feel they are useless, but we have a previously installed ADT system in our home already. Is it even worth the hassle? I don’t want random false alarms and phonecalls. ADT stickers are all over everything, and we’ve been here over a year with so far no sign of trouble from the crackheads next door. The insurance co. did not query me saying “there is a system but it’s not connected” when I got my insurance…. Do we bother? Or save the $$ and get a dog/scarier cats? Thanks!

  1. ADT Brooklyn: Ask for Valentino to install/update… He is superb. If there’s a wait for him – and there usually is – wait.

  2. Don’t use ADT, they suck. Go with a local company like Safeway in Brooklyn.

  3. The police do respond though it is a low priority job. After 3 false alarms fines are issued.

To the OP $1200?! Are they putting in a new panel?

  4. My question is whether the police even respond to a burglar alarm. Does anyone have experience with the NYPD actually showing up? If not, has anyone contracted with a private security company to respond if a burglar alarm goes off?

  5. I had ADT for seven years, and only had minor hassles with them involving a failed battery backup. Overall they provided a reliable system. However, read your cancellation clause carefully. If you do choose to cancel, put it in writing and get their confirmation.
    Good luck with the crackheads.

  6. Give out free crack….the ‘heads’ next door will protect your house with their life.

  7. hell, yes! you only need it once to save your ass.

i have had alarm systems in 3 places and my office and never really “needed” them until a couple of weeks ago when the alarm going off scared away a burglar.

    nothing was taken either.

  8. I have appt on Thurs to have it hooked up, cost was $1200 and $40 or so per month, all worth my peace of mind as I work late and go away often especially during summer.
