Help — my doors are 46″ wide, not 48″ wide. So I can’t use a regular door or two regular bifold doors. Does anyone make custom doors cheap? Or do I need to take readymade doors to the lumber yard and have them saw off 2 inches?

  1. It may be possible to buy a 48″ door and cut 1″ off each side with a table saw without hurting the integrity of the door, but it depends on the construction. You may also end up with a door that looks silly afterwards.

Having said that, I have done similar things witout regret in the past. However, doors are usually constructed with hardwood dowels and lumber yards, HD, etc. will typically not rip the door for you to protect their equipment and the door, so you or your contractor may have to do it.

  2. Well???? How cheap is cheap? Depending on what you want, custom pine doors run about $300-$400 each. If you buy solid pine doors you could cut them down. It’s really up to you. Think about what you really want.
