I have a small brownstone with 3 stories. I want to switch my bathroom to the other side of the third floor because it will make the lay out much better. How much does it cost to bring up new plumbing? (there is a closet on garden floor which the pipes could run through and a way to hide soffet on parlor floor)

  1. Wow – that sounds like a nightmare. I didn’t think about the sloping issue – nor the venting issue. Thanks a lot for your expertise.

  2. I will tread where apparently wiser men fear to go.

Waste lines are by code no hub in NYC, and need gravity (proper slope) to function. Whether there is a path up is less of a problem than how to get across the basement and over the existing waste line while gradually slooping down. Running 4″ no hub is expensive and you’ll need a lot of it. Ballpark 8K.

Next all fixtures must be vented (again in no hub but 2″ not 4″) that has to go all the way up and out, so figure another 3K unless there is some way to rejoin the vent line from the existing stack.

Then there are the hot and cold feeds, in copper with ball valve shutoffs, figure another 4K.

Then there are the waste line connections from the fixtures to the new 4″ waste line, another 2K.

And we still haven’t purchased or installed a fixture yet. All this requires plans filed and work performed by licensed plumber.

25K could buy a lot of “better layout” in other ways.
