Brooklyn Schools, District 15
Hello all. I’m looking to move into school District 15 and am trying to find the boundaries. Most online maps I’ve found are drawn with too little specificity. Any suggestions on where to find a map that will outline the district for me? Many thanks and Happy Holidays to all.

Original poster here. Thanks for your thoughts and advice.
actually, living in district 15 bodes well for enrollment in unzoned schools such as BNS and Children’s School. It also gives you a leg up for out-of-zone variances. For example, PS 58 and PS 261 are required to take district 15 kids first if they have seats available after all the zoned kids are placed. .
i agree with that last line… its where u live and where you goto school. Just bring your kids up properly and they will be fine. i went to ps274 and IS383 and i live in district 32. And I did fine, even received a masters degree 4yrs ago (not that it means that much). I’m just a believer in “its not the school system, its the child”. My kids will be smart even if I have to beat the s–t out of them. 🙂 so yeah, thats my advice. if you are a good parent. your kids will be fine whatever district u are in. just remember to beat your kids 🙂 google or youtube “russell peters beat your kids” if you dont believe me.
3:16pm again — that’s true, but while District 15 has some ok middle schools (IS 51, the Math one that used to be Upper Carroll), there really aren’t so many that you’d move into the district for them. I think some of the great Brooklyn middle schools are in other districts, in fact, and some of the best ones are borough wide. Seems like the 5th graders in my Bklyn elementary are looking at lots of middle schools beyond District 15, although some of those are their “fall backs”, and I know 51 is considered to be a very good option. Sad that kids have to go through a college application – like process just to go to 6th grade. I’m hoping that changes soon, and maybe then the middle school district will be more important. But I hear there’s a new one to open near PS 8, in D. 13, so again, I wouldn’t pick a place to live based on middle school.
Agree with guest if your children are very young but if you are looking for middle schools as well then district is also important.
You are much better off looking at specific zones in D 15, not the whole district. Because you could move into the district, but be zoned for a bad school. Not every district 15 school is good — it just happens to have alot of good elementary schools (321, 29, 58, 107, etc.) But there are also other good schools, like ps 8, which is in district 13. You want to look at zones, not districts. And zones are found in insideschools.org, or the DOE website.
