Is there any better source than the NYTimes online that collects and displays Brooklyn real estate listings. NYTimes has plenty of limitations but every other site I see is worse.

  1. <-- Howard The agents and brokers do not control what appears.. YET. The Long Island MLS access page (public) is awesome.. just too many ads... the Brooklyn MLS needs more information, definately. BTW, if there are ANY listings on BNYMLS that you want more info on, I can help, or of course the listing agent can too. This MLS is appx 40 years old... there was a merger between 2 of the 3 MLS boards a few years back.. Now all of the BNYMLS members are members of NAR (National Association of Realtors). For years, we couldn't get the member companies to all agree to join or not. ANNUAL FEES became a reality, as well as adhering to ETHICS RULES, and mandatory ETHICS classes. As far as BrooklynMLS.com (Bay Ridge & Bensonhurst) Im not sure as I am not a member of that board. Look for websites that have an IDX link to the BNYMLS.com Howard!

  2. Howard, the BrooklynMLS.com site used to look like the ww.bnymls.com kind of looks now, except with even more information than offered now.

Is the BrooklynMLS.com complete? I know there was an “under construction” message there for a few weeks before getting back online, but just showing a photo to a house and a link to the agents email is hardly an improvent – in fact the opposite. I’m disappointed.

  3. All of the online listings have drawbacks. If you are looking to purchase a house, I would suggest that you use a broker familiar with and successful in the neighborhood in which you are looking to purchase. Ex. Looking for a Co-op or condo in Ditmas or Kensington go to Brooklyn Hearth, if you are looking for a house in the same neighborhood go to Mary Kay Gallagher or Julie Kestyn. I’ve found that people selling their own homes are often unrealistic about price and don’t look to pass their savings on commission to the buyer.

  4. I think natefind.com is most useful. Have not tried streeteasy, but will give it a shot.

  5. It’s just me but not showing the address discourages me from contacting the agent. In my head: “If this broker is willing to withhold such important info, what else would he/she hide from me?”

  6. The MLS access website encourages you to contact the listing agent, however I agree that there shoudl be MUCH MORE info on each house.

I will pass along your thoughts to IT dept!

  7. Just checked out streeteays and BNYMLS for the first times. I definitely prefer streeteasy. Howard, not listing the street the property is on is a major deteriment in my mind.
