I have a terribly squeaky sub-floor in my building and I need to remedy it. I have been told that screwing it to the joists will solve the problem but I am not sure about that. Does anyone have a good contractor that can do this sort of job? Thanks

  1. DIY just ran a show with this and it turned out the squeak was from metal nails rubbing a joist hanger under the floor.
They pulled the nails, put down plywood with contruction adhesive cutting a circular sawblade width expansion gap between sheets. Nails were used on angle to hold plywood in place while adhesive set.

They didn’t explain the proper way to use joist hangers though.

  2. It won’t help if the joists are the source of the squeak. Its an easy fix to try but the only way to know for sure is to open everything up and look at what is squeaking.
