Plaster dust
Just finished doing some renovations, and I cannot seem to get rid of the plaster dust that is coating my hardwood floors. I’ve used vinegar and Murphy’s Oil Soap, but there remains a residue. Also, anyone know of a good cleaning service to do deep cleaning? I’d like to get the carpets, insides of regrigerators, windows, etc. cleaned before the weather starts to turn cold.
Thanks.
Let the cleaning service know that there is plaster dust. Some will charge a “commercial” rate which is a bit more for post construction cleanup. Better to let them know than to have them come and up the price once the arrive.
The plaster dust is everywhere, hiding on ledges and nooks and cranies all over your place. I don’t have the name of a cleaning service, but look into one that does post renovation cleaning with hepa filters which do the best job in eliminating dust. I concur with the previous poster — Murphy Oil soap is bad for cleaning floors, as counterintuitive as that seems. It is oily and attracts dust. Vinegar and water is best.
Murphys Oil Soap leaves a residue even all by itself. I always use vinegar.
Sounds like you might need to do a good old fashioned, on-the-knees job of scrubbing the floor. Get a large brush that’s soft enough so it doesn’t leave scratches. You could try a little Simple Green mixed in the water. And buy a padded thing used in gardens, for kneeling on the floor so you don’t hurt your knees.
