Ok…I know this one comes up at least once a week (if not more), but I wanted to reach out to the Brownstoner community to get 3 really good contractor recs.
We just completed our plans (on what will be a complete gut renovation of a 4 story townhouse in clinton hill) and would like some contractors to give us bids. Can anyone help us with this?

I’m recommending AllRenovation, they did a total gut of my brownstone which included 2 high-end kitchens, 2 baths, original oak restoration (moldings, doors, etc.), floor installation, wood floor refinishing, custom closets, restoring original pocket doors, a fireplace restoration, a pier mirror restoration, a deck from my parlor to garden, and central air (A/C only as I decided to keep my hot water system).
GPricing was competitive as I bid my project out to other recommended contractors (Torresi and A-Team). I found AllRenovation more professional and communicative, the other GC’s were hard to track down or did not return phone calls promptly. The estimate I got from AllRenovation also was very detailed and had the project costs line itemized.
BEWARE of a bulk price estimates with no details…those type of quotes will cost you with change orders down the road! Stick with GC’s or companies with past/present projects you can visit and clients you can actually speak to LIVE…very important.

I recommend Ambiance Improvement, who did a total reno of our brownstone in Park Slope. Ask for Greg, 917-907-1100. He gave us a more thorough bid than other contractors, so there were no surprise change orders. He is honest, a perfectionist, and was very helpful in making suggestions with respect to both cost and design.

I would be happy to recommend my contractor who has done a wonderful job on our four story townhouse in Crown Heights North. The work was a total gut renovation working around the existing original details and saving as much as we possibly could, which he did. The contractor was Thahal Beer of Beer Home Improvement (646) 358-6118. He’s licensed and insured, dependable, responsible, honest and very knowledgeable when it comes to these old homes.
