Hello
Our stand-alone air conditioner spilled water on the floor and we were unaware of it until morning. The water caused the boards to warp and for a few to buckle up. It’s awful.

I have absolutely no idea of who I should be calling to come and take a look at this. Does anyone have any recommendations? It’s a small job. All the reviews I can find on here are for re-doing floors in an entire house etc. and they do not seem apprpriate for here.

Should I be looking under carpentry?

Thanks

  1. In our first house we had a flood from the upstairs bathroom that soaked our 90 year old oaken hard wood floors and caused warping in a roughly 6 ft sq area, the edges of the boards curling up. We thought we had to replace it but the insurance adjuster said she’d seen it before and told us to let it dry out for 2 weeks and it’ll probably go back to normal, then secure it with some nails.

She was right. Those old floors can take a beating

  2. I agree – let it wait a while, maybe even more than a couple of weeks. We had a flood and the pieces of wood in our parquet floor cupped, but they flattened themselves out over a couple of months as they fully dried out. If you go ahead and replace some of the wood, you are unlikely to get an exact match to the original wood. Also, if you sand the cupped wood, it will look off when it does dry out.

    Good luck.

  3. Let it dry out for a week or two. After we had a flood the edges of the wood (oak) curled up — only to flatten out when the boards dried.
