Thickness of kitchen countertops

I’m in the middle of a kitchen reno, and am seriously looking at the Silestone at Home Depot. They have a deal on the 2 cm vs the more standard 3 cm thickness. My question is will it really look like I’ve cut corners if I go for the thinner one? Other details–it’s a narrow long kitchen, cabinets only on one side, and the color I’ve chosen is a dark grey over white cabinets…
Obviously the OP does care what this looks like or they wouldn’t ask the question. if their only concern was “saving money” they would have just bought the cheaper item and not asked the question. But like said before, buy what you like, who cares if someone thinks you cut corners. It’s YOU that needs to be satisfied. If you like the 2cm, then get it. If you don’t and you’ll cringe every time you look at it later, then splurge for the 3cm. it’s all about personal tastes. You obviously think that it looks cheap, otherwise you wouldn’t have asked the question. If you’re ok with that, then buy it.
2 CM may be laminated – a strip glued underneath to achieve 4 CM. This may help the pocketbook and permit you to enjoy an upgraded edge treatment.
We got Caesarstone (same as Silestone) and really love it. We got the thicker countertop. It looks beautiful, but the thinner countertop would be fine, because I still think the thick counter is a tad overpowering, visually. IMO. In the end it’s entirely up to your own taste, and pocketbook. There’s nothing wrong with saving money. I kind of hate it when people disdain that concern, here on Forum. Old houses will continue to cost money, on and on. Don’t blow the bank trying to keep up with the Joneses.
thin could look great if done with the right cabinets. It’s probably a more modern look, though. If that’s what you like and that’s what kind of hardware and cabinets you have, it’s probably fine.
In the end, buy what you like, not just because it’s on sale. You’ll hate yourself if you do that. You’ll have to stare at it for the next 5 years plus.
You can do the top in the 2cm stone and have the edge cut 3cm and attached to give the illusion of a thicker piece. Thick is in. SInce it is a trend now I think that a thinner counter will look dated.
To the readers- I realize that countertops do not make a person and that I did mention ‘trend’ so please do not hang me by my toenails.
