New brownstone owner and I am eager to put in a fabulous unique vintage-like main Parlor Floor door. Would be grateful for any ideas, pics or sources! Thanks

  1. I have a unique perspective on both comments above. We purchased our doors from Old Good Things, they were previously from Argentina, and then I had Omar from Artistic Woodcrafts restore them and build the door surrounds. He did an amazing job. You can see them for yourself at 395 6th Avenue, between 6th and 7th streets. They have only been up for a couple of weeks, but I have had 3 or 4 people knock and ask where they came from.

  2. Just a clarification about Eddie. Eddie Hibbert owns an architectural salvage operation located on Greene between Grand and Classon (close to Grand). He is open Tues-Sat (12-6). Eddie has an enormous number of vintage doors, including exterior doors. As 9:49 mentions, Eddie is extremely knowledgeable (and a very nice, honest personable guy…) about historic doors and he may have doors that fit your brownstone. That would be wonderful.

In my case, a contractor botched the installation of 2 new doors I had made and I went to Eddie who made several suggestions about the repair, rebuilding and reinstallation of these doors. He has a network of people he can recommend and I got Omar’s name from him.

    Good luck to you.

  3. I posted this the other day in response to a similiar question…..

Omar is a serious, meticulous, amazing carpenter who has a mill shop who has a millshop in the Brooklyn Navy yard. He has worked for years building and refurbishing doors in historic Brownstone Brooklyn. He has a passion for historic restoration and specializes in doors. He is rebuilding a set of doors for me and has created and installed historically correct moldings in my my vestibule. In some cases he has restored entire brownstones with historic moldings.

    His number is 646-541-3409.

He has a website with pictures of his work. There aren’t enough pictures on this site but I have seen his work and it is beautiful.

    Good luck!!
