I need window bars made and installed and found that Nichols ironworks came recommended by a couple of ppl in this forum.
I called them up, got an estimate after Nicky got me to measure and fax him but after a week he has not returned my phone calls.
Left a couple of messages.

Anyone have recent experience with him?
I guess I could go with Vinny if no one does.

  1. DO NOT USE Nicholas IW. They worked on a spiral stair and fence for me and it was extremely unprofessional and poor quality. I hired them b.c they were friendly and seemed have decent recs from this site. I should have checked them out before hiring. They never came on time and made tons of excuses. It was the worst contracting experience I have ever had (and have done a lot of remodeling). It took almost 5 months to “complete” the job.

Vinnie’s is overpriced and will definitely talk to you in a condescending way, but I am sure they are not terrible like Nicholas.

  2. Anyone else?
I just called Vinnys and he told me to look in the yellow pages because I’m too far away from him (East Williamsburg)

  3. I agree that Vinny does top notch work, is totally no BS. It is just that he is pretty expensive. By the way anon 10:31 can you share how much Vinnie charged you to do the fences?
I have a totally decrepit rusted garden floor iron door and I asked him how much to restore it (sand blast it and repaint it). He also said I should get a new lock and he wanted $2,000. Whoa.

  4. GO WITH VINNY! This man is no BS at all, and will do an amazing job. I used him on my totally rusted and dangerously decrepit stoop fences, and he completely restored them!
