I am going to be gut renovating my kitchen. We want to do a white high gloss flat European style. The contractor has suggested Hanssem thermofoil cabinets. I don’t know much about this brand or the pro’s/cons of thermofoil so any advice would be appreciated. Also if anyone can suggest any other brands or places to get good deals on European style cabinets it would be appreciated.

  1. I am a staunch and unyielding opponent of Ikea furniture – I’ve had enough of it fall apart on me throughout my lean years – but I have to make an exception for their kitchen cabinets. Not that they’re exceptional, but they’re as good as almost anything out there at twice the price. I’ve seen them in quite a few high-end(ish) kitchen renos lately.
    Worth a look.

  2. Stay away from thermafoil. it sucks. it’s not really lacquer.

i suggest Almillmo, Poggen Pohl, even IKEA (we have the black lacquer ones and they are great).

There’s a place on 59th, near the bridge that has great deals on german high gloss lacquer cabinets. (can’t remember the name).
