Entrance gate mail chute
Hi there, I need to take a picture of something that one of you may have at your house, or you may know where one is. I’m looking for a garden level entrance gate under the stairs that has a mail slot towards the top, but instead of the mail just falling to the floor…
Hi there, I need to take a picture of something that one of you may have at your house, or you may know where one is. I’m looking for a garden level entrance gate under the stairs that has a mail slot towards the top, but instead of the mail just falling to the floor below to get wet or stepped on, there is some kind of chute going down the back of the gate that catches the mail, with a hinged door or opening for retrieving the mail. Does anyone know where I can find something like this? I’m trying to design an entrance gate and need to give my iron guy a very specific idea of what I need (and convince my husband that it’s not a stupid idea).
Thanks,
Amy
are you two having a marriage spat in a forum? how tacky.
Oooh, you mean like through the side of the stairs? That’s an idea. I can’t visualize it – I’ll go check the space out. Thanks!
What about installing the mail drop into the space under the stoop stairs?
Omer, is that you? 🙂
It would be less than 1/3 the width of the door. It could be made out of mesh. Mailboxes are ugly and won’t handle large envelopes/small packages. Any mailbox with an opening big enough for a small package/thick catalog becomes a security risk.
An alternative would be something on the bottom to catch the mail, with no chute. But with no chute the box at the bottom would have to stick out more to catch the mail, and we would bang our legs on it constantly.
My main concern about doing this is that it would have to be large enough to handle magazines and would block visibility through the gate, or just be an eyesore- might as well put a solid steel door up.
What is wrong with a locking mailbox outside on a wall?
