To save cost, we are looking for an architect who would help us in drawing up plans but not so much in designs. Most importantly, we need someone who would do self-certification.

Any good recommendation is appreciated.

  1. The reason 99% of new construction sucks is because developers “think” they are good designers. If they left the designing to the architects, 99% of new construction would look great.

I pay a tax guy, an accountant and a doctor to do their job and i would never think that I can do theirs. Why would I not give the same courtesy to an architect? Architects go through the same length and cost of training that a doctor does.

  2. Yeh — do architects think there the only ones with any design skills. I beg to differ — you just have to look at 99% of new construction these days.

  3. OP, I LOVE your response regarding the appliance repairman!!! Are the architects on this board that snarky or is it architect groupies? Try jccarchitect.com. I’m not sure if he can help, but I guarantee he won’t give you the ‘tude of anyone on this board. Good luck!

  4. Approval time has more to do with the expediter and plan examiner. But you’re really not saving much time by self-certifying. 1 or 2 weeks at most.

A grad student from Pratt can’t sign and seal your drawings unfortunately.

What is the scope of your project?
