I’ve interacted with John Hatheway professionally — he’s a good architect, thorough and fair.
–an architect in Brooklyn
I recently completed a major renovation of my house and John Hatheway was the architect. He did a great job and we were very happy with him. He many good ideas, knew his stuff, gave us realistic estimates of what things would cost and he is a very nice guy. Good luck.
I met with 2 of these architects when figuring out who to go with on my current project. They both anticipated a much greater amount of work than I was willing to accept that I would have to do. In the end they were both correct though. If I had hired one of them instead of the architect I ended up hiring I would have saved many annoyances along with way. But in the end I did the job a cheaper way that was way, way harder. I wish I had just paid up and hired one of them. Their fees weren’t the issue, just that they use amazing contractors who know how to get the job done right and that means they know how to bid on a job properly and that means it just plain costs more. So now me and my contractor are learning on the job and it’s a painful process for all. Wish I hired one of them instead of the route I took! Also I have seen Kim’s work and it’s stellar. But then again I’ve seen John’s work firsthand and it’s nice too (I didn’t speak with him before because I assumed I couldn’t afford him, but that means nothing, I am a fool…see above, etc.) The other architect of your group that I met comes so highly regarded that I didn’t even feel I needed to see their work and they were so nice!
I’ve known Perla my whole life and am hoping to work with her on a reno project in the next couple of months (assuming I pull the financing together). She’s a wonderful, trustworthy person with great taste.
Perla/Jeff are great. I’m also an architect (in the city) and really like their work – their detailing is excellent (which is what many of we architects care most about). They are also just nice people, I think you’d find working with them a pleasure.
Baxt Ingui is well known and respected within the architectural community…
