What’s a reasonable amount of time to expect a response to either a phone call or email to your architect regarding a (BIG) project in progress?

  1. We’ve been working with our architect for 7 months and he still responds within a day — at least to acknowledge the call/email. I’d say 5 days is totally unacceptable. Now if that were a contractor I’d understand…

  2. Poster who said this (you would like to have a bit more attention given to their response time.)
thats funny because all his clients are saying the same thing my project is going on a year now . I found out that you pay and wait.

  3. 5 days is a little unacceptable. I would wait 2 or 3 at the most. But like I said, all architecture firms (myself included) are extremely busy right now; big and small ones. But that’s no excuse for waiting 5 days to return a phone call.

You should have a polite conversation with the owner explaining that you understand how booming the construction industry is right now and you appreciate the fact that they may have other clients who may have more pressing issues currently. You also should state how much you appreciate the time they put in towards your project, but you would like to have a bit more attention given to their response time. I’m sure they’ll either tell you the reason they have been lapse, or they will just change their ways.

    Good luck.

  4. OP here. I’ve been working with them for several months now and their reply time is regularly
several days or so…I’d say 5 days is the average.

  5. One day. But you should realize that you are not the only client. And construction is extremely busy right now. How long have you been waiting?
