hi all, i realize in advance this is an open ended question, but any estimates on how much it would cost to turn an unfinished english basement/cellar into a rental apt in a limestone im buying. the house is already a two family, but wed have to change the c of o, bec the basement isnt a legal apt. assuming that is doable, and assuming an expeditor and architect cost total of 10k to 20k, how much is the rest? building a bathroom and kitchen and bedroom walls from scratch and assume ikea for kitchenb? are we talking 50k? 100K? any thoughts or rough breakdown would be appreciated.

search “basement” or “cellar” in this forum and you’ll see multiple posts explaining why what you’re trying to do is illegal, and why that matters. (hint: you’ll want to factor in attorney’s fees once you get sued).
It’s illegal to have a living space below grade, so you’ll never get a C of O change for it…
Not to mention you would officially have to change your title from “landlord” to “slumlord”.
It’s very unlikley you’ll be able to get approval for an apartmnet in an english basement. It’s generally against code.
