Bamboo Floors
Anyone install them? They look attractive and affordable to me. I am wondering how they wear, how they’ll do in a rental unit, how cleaning up works… etc. And can anyone recommend a good installer? Much obliged.

Hi,
My name is Louis Buono – owner of Buono’s Flooring Co., Inc. We’ve been in business since 1979 right here in Brooklyn. Bamboo flooring is an excellent product. The wood itself is about 28% harder than Red Oak. How well it wears will depend on the finish. Although not technically wood, care is the same as any other hardwood floor. Keep the grit off the floor with a broom and by using throw rugs. Use the manufacturers recommended cleaner.
If I can be of any further assistance, you can reach me at (718) FLOORING or at (718) 645-6934. I would be happy to provide you with a free in home estimate.
Best of luck,
Lou

They install relatively easily. We installed nailed down tongue and groove bamboo flooring (~600 sq ft) ourselves in a relatively high traffic hallway with steps, a living room and dining room. It’s a fairly clean and modern look.
It’s held up very well (disclaimer: no dogs or children live in the house). Although small dings seem obvious at first, it’s just because the factory finish is so perfect. After a number of months it isn’t noticeable at all. Expansion and contraction is very slight.
I would recommend ordering samples from a number of distributors though, because the look and color can be pretty different. I haven’t seen the “stranded” bamboo flooring installed, but it might look more like traditional hardwood floors.
I’d love to know as well….
