I recently bought an early 20th C. brick house that has a wall-through air-conditioner that was installed by a previous owner. Any suggestions on contractors who could remove the a/c and restore the brick wall to something close to its original condition? Are there any pitfalls to having this done? The a/c is in a very visible part of the exterior, so I want the end result to look as good as possible, and of the course that section of wall will have to be insulated and plastered on the inside.

  1. The problem is finding bricks same size and closest in color to match.
Don’t think too many masons are going to be hunting too much for you.
May make sense to do some hunting yourself.

  2. Sorry, don’t know any contractors, but I would just check out the work of any masons or maybe brownstone restorers you see working on your neighbors’ buildings–and if it looks good, ask them for an estimate. Good masons (unlike Italian plaster artists, or, for that matter, tailors) are not terribly hard to find. Thanks for de-Fedderising even one such nasty A/C installation…..
