i’m always searching on this forum for specific costs for various projects, but i rarely find people willing to say how much they actually paid for anything. i just had some radiator valves replaced, i thought it might benefit somebody else to know that Vigilante charges $220 for the first valve, then $187 for each additional. this may be a huge ripoff, but thus far they’re the only plumbers to show up when they said they would.

  1. $200 is not a rip off price to replace steam valves. Not by a licensed plumber. I can do the job myself…lets see i will need a saw saw with a new metal blade…two heavy duty wrenches…and an hours time to go pick up the valve from the supply store then another hour to do the job. Oh yeah and 15 years doing reno work under my belt.

  2. To anonymous 10:59, I recommended John Hlad based on my personal experience. He installed my 75 gallon hot water heater, replaced a toilet and a pedestal sink, replaced and repaired 4 sinks in my rental unit, replaced two steam valves on radiators. Once my tenant had an emergency flood in their kitchen and I called John and he was on site inside of 45 minutes, fixed the flood and mailed me an invoice. He has always showed up on time for each appointment and never charged more than he estimated.
I hope that is specific enough for you and I hope you refrain from attacking anyone’s reputation with no reason to do so.

  3. John Hlad doesn’t have a clue what the internet is…and his assistant most certainly doesn’t…ther’s no way a pro-Hlad post could come from Hlad himself…I would just focus on the people who recommend him and why…that’s the real question to ask…

  4. I have in the past used Vigilante but won’t ever again. Pricey and not cost effective. I have liked Donato plumbers, John Hlad, MPH and Martin Plumbers.

  5. Years ago (mid ’80’s) I paid Vigilante 700 to do fairly minor work on a bathtub. We always felt we were wildly overcharged and have never used them again. Good plumbers – plumbers people like seem very hard to find.
