i’m always searching on this forum for specific costs for various projects, but i rarely find people willing to say how much they actually paid for anything. i just had some radiator valves replaced, i thought it might benefit somebody else to know that Vigilante charges $220 for the first valve, then $187 for each additional. this may be a huge ripoff, but thus far they’re the only plumbers to show up when they said they would.

  1. Years ago (mid ’80’s) I paid Vigilante 700 to do fairly minor work on a bathtub. We always felt we were wildly overcharged and have never used them again. Good plumbers – plumbers people like seem very hard to find.

  2. odd that we’ve only seen these generic, nonspecific plugs for John Hlad, but we’ve had several very specific and individual posts about how bad his work has been. if you’re going to praise somebody, please include some specifics about the job, otherwise i gotta assume it’s mr hlad posting about himself.

  3. my experiences with Vigilante..

when i bought my first coop in bklyn heights, the first thing I did was change the valves on the water supply lines (1 toilet, 2 bath sink (hot/cold), 2 kitchen sink (hot/cold)..5 total). Since the coop board required an insured licensed plumber, I ventured to find a company with such credentials; hence i met Vigilante.

the price ended up being 1250., and before the job was completed within the hour, the toilet water tank seal mysteriously broke, and coincidently, since I had the experts on site I had to fork over another 200. to replace the seal.

1450. for a 1 hour job. Just so happens that a contractor in my family heard this news and took it upon himself to call vigilante and discuss..before long I had 700. back in my pocket, the amount I overpaid for the work. i guess the moral of the story is to always negotiate, especially when living in an affluent nabe where they assume we can afford to pay through the nose.

  4. If you’re talking about the on/off valves, that’s not too bad. If you mean those little things that spit and hiss, you overpaid big time. I replace them myself.
