Our space is 28.5″ including the door swing allowance, so it’s actually effectively about 27″ wide.
So far, our choices are the $5000 sub zero (plus the $1000 stainless steel panels – not included in the sale price – for a total of $6k plus tax) or the 26 7/8″ Summit brand fridge for around $800.
Budget-wise we’re leaning toward, the Summit fridge (um, what’s up sub zero – $5K NOT including the outside of the fridge??? come on… that’s retarded), but it doesn’t even have an ice maker. It’s only 1 step up from a dinky 23″ apartment fridge.
Anyone know of any others brands/models in a narrow size, ideally with an ice maker?
We are at a total loss.
Check out conservrefrigerator.com I don’t have one but according to the site, they’re superquiet–but may not have enough features.
5 years ago we redesigned half of our kitchen and decided to go with a European approach with an under counter frig. We purchased the True (commercial) on casters w/9.5 cubic feet(The sub zero was ridiculously high). It is perfect (around $1200.00) but the noise from the compressor is very annoying in our open style home. Now I am on the “hunt” for a quiet, energy efficient, narrow refrigerator one again.
try Northland refrigerators you might find one for around 3,000. they have an 18 and 24 in. very tall the compressor is on the top so the fridge is also not very deep around 25 in. Great looking fridge!
I have a consumer reports subscription. Unfortunatly they are pretty worthless when you are looking at smaller sized applainances. Amana has a 28″ as its narrowist. Don’t know about kenmore. I don’t think they even had much to say about the brands I picked, premier and summit. My DW is GE, but an 18″, not really a reviewed size.
Anyone look up Consumer Reports for frigs? They rated Kenmore and Amana pretty high.
My Summit is also somewhat loud but I find it somewaht entertaining. When it shuts down, it goes into a “grumble and gurgle” mode for a few minutes (my son’s term.) Was told this is normal. I think it’s a good fridge.
We had the same problem, so I hunted down a fridge on Craigslist for about $75. There are so many there, it only took about 30 min to find the right one… of course, you’d have to be willing to get a used fridge. Many people aren’t, which is why the prices are crazy low.
After much searching I bought the summit from j and r on the seventh ave. One warning, it came with gray sides and door grabs not black like the pictures I saw. But, it looks fine with the grey. (it’s a stainless front). I have been happy with the summit except it seems a little loud. This may be because it is not levelled yet(still redoing the kitchen). The back is also about a foot away from the wall so I don’t know if that is also contributing to the sound. Also, I have a very small dining area/living area with the kitchen along one wall so its not like its in its own room. I went with it verses the lg as I wanted a top freezer. The above models mentioned were not in my price range. I did not want to dela with an ice maker. So far I have been happy with it, I got a good price from j and r and they delivered it for free. They also took my old stuff for a small fee, but I didn’t have to deal with removing fridge doors.
I have actually purchased from ajmadison and they are really good. They’re in Boro Park, but you can order online.
