Since several posters have recommended Heights Historic for windows and doors, I wanted to post a warning about my continuing bad experience. My home was measured for two Kolbe doors last December. After weeks of delay and avoidance, I finally got an estimate. I paid for the doors in April and was told to expect a 8- to12-week delivery. 18 weeks later the doors were delivered, but not as ordered. I was told to expect re-delivery in 4 weeks. 12 weeks later a different set of wrong doors was delivered. It’s now been about 46 weeks and I’m waiting for Heights Historic to remove these doors and start again. Perhaps my bad experience is unique, but I didn’t want the recommendations on this site to go unanswered.

  1. Heights dis 2 of my staircases.

    Georgous work, contientious carpenders,
and all around easy to-deal with company!

I love my repaired stairs (new treads and trisers- no squeeks!!)

  2. I would Like to respond to this personally I am the owner of Heights Historic. The poster has a valid issue which we are dealing with but the facts as outlined are not totally accurate. I went to look at the project back in late February. I determined that it was a project we were not interested in pursuing due to its size & difficulty & spoke to the homeowner in March to tell her that. I also told her that we had an individual we would like to reccomend who could do the work for her.(The unit had to be made so it could be carried up 5 flights of narrow stairs in pieces). He came back to us in April with questions for repricing as initial price was too high for the homeowner. We ordered the units in mid May. Kolbe has had an extraordinary year there door orders were running 10 to 12 weeks we received the units in Mid August. The Installer came to pick up & discovered the interior finish was incorrect so we had to order again with a clear finish. There is no way that can be turned around in 4 weeks I wish it could. It took 10 more weeks.

The new unit arrived & unfortunatley it opened the wrong way. We picked up the unit so the manufacturer could determine if it could be modified or not. It cannot & we are again ordering a new door. It is a bad situation but We have never walked away or shirked from our responsibility to the client. Nothing has been removed or installed yet. We are working with the manufacturers to expedite the delivery a.s.a.p. but it is impossible to make a factory change its policy for a single unit. This unit is aluminum clad on the exterior & finished with clear poly on the interior & has polished nickle hardware. It is custom height & custom width.

I am not defending where we are with this one it is one that we all want to complete & make sure the owner will be satisfied with the product in the end. We will continue to monitor the situation & get the new product to the site as as soon as we receive it from the Manufacturer.
I have no excuse for the time it has taken. I am sorry that this has happened & If it were me I would also be unhappy. In general I have not had any other projects that have gone this way & I will make sure that this never happens again. I had an employee where we had some issues during his tenure. He is no longer with us. I will make it my business to make sure that any issue like this will not happen again. It is not one we are proud of & will make sure it is remembered for all the bad reasons that it should be remebered for & insure all that it will not occur again.
