we would like to put heating in our floors once we renovate our groundfloor kitchen. we were want the floors to be wide wooden planks but i hear that wooden floors don’t do to well with heating under them. has anyone heard that?

  1. we recently redid an entire 4 story townhouse with radient floor heating and did one floor completely with tile. when doing research on what to do with wood floors on the other 3 floors we were told to use quarter cut – quarter sawn wood which can come in any size and variety. we have just started using the radient heating wood floors and we have seen no shrinkage or expansion as of yet – mindful that it hasn’t been that cold and the radient heating is not cranking at full speed yet.

  2. yes – if you don’t pick your wood carefully. Is better if planks are narrower –> shrinkage/expansion less impace & if they are quartersawn –> more stable. Certain varieties of wood are better than others.
