I was quoted a price of $30 a foot just to install crown molding, which I find to be extremely high price to pay. Can anyone inform me of the going price and possibly suggest someone?

  1. That is very high. I often get craftsmen from the big companies who want to do it on the side (You would be surprised how little the workers actually make working for a “legitimate” company). Try spotting a home that is getting work done and talk to the guys/gals doing the work and see if they want to earn a little on the side. This works especially if they are doing work in your hood. This is also a good way to see the quality of their work.

  2. payment will vary depending on the craftmanship and quality ‘expected’. if installing finished wood, the type used and finish will determine cost. if painting the crown, the cost will be less. certain woods and moulding designs are harder to work with, and if finishing with stain, they must be perfect. crown requires 2 people, and the higher the ceiling the more tedious. Many homes are not square which complicates the process. 200-300 a day will likely get you a handy man.. a company doing craftman work will be required to pay insurance, taxes, labor, provide equipment, as well as invest in employees to retain, train and motivate them..and after all is said and done the company must make a profit.. they will price the job according to everything above..i can’t say it will be more or less then $30. a foot, but that wouldn’t surprise me for finished work or high quality. ..look at the price of high end furniture.

  3. It really depends on how many miters have to be made. that is where the work is labor ( Skill) intensive. You should pay someone between 200 and 300 a day to do this job not including materials
