Has anyone ordered Kraftmaid caninets from Lowes? Need some info on their quality as I’ve heard mixed reviews.

  1. Donatella,

Do you regret the Bisque Glazed KraftMaid cabinets? Do you think they have gotten better at it from October 2006 (when you posted) and now?

We are ready to make a purchase tomorrow (3/17) on a KraftMaid bisque glazed, mitered set of cabinets from Lowes. I was sold until I saw your post.

    My email address is [removed]

Please respond quickly if you can. Thanks!

  2. I agree with the post made by donatella. We went through Home Depot and got the Kraftmaid glazed finish and they were crap! Crap is even to good a word to use. We ordered the cabinets in October and are still trying to get this mess straightened out. If I had to do over I would have gotten some thing else. We have had 4 shipments of cabinets etc. to our house and the stuff that comes is all dammaged in some way or another. Paid over $6,000 and I get crap? Yep that is what I got. The Kraftmaid people have been nice but that does not help me when I don’t have a useable kitchen for over 2 months.

  5. I had a very good experience ordering Kraftmaid from Lowes. I ordered all plywood Thermofoil for a tenants apartment and everything went very well.

I had a very bad experience with Home Depot and Kraftmaid. Murphy?s law – design did not fit kitchen measurements as made, poorly applied glaze, warped doors, improperly mitered joints on panel doors, 10 separate deliveries. Ultimately Kraftmaid made good on the order and bent over backwards to make it right. Home Depot refunded me 50%. It was extremely painful, though and took me months to straighten out the whole mess.

Overall, I would say that Kraftmaid are decent mid range semi-custom cabinets and that if you decide to get them, definately go to Lowes. Designers there are mostly Ex-Home Depot designers, who learned there and then went to Lowes where they earn 2X the money and also get paid commissions (a designer told me that this weekend). Also the entire infrastructure of Lowes is night and day from Home Depot. They are a more experienced, well paid and happier lot. You can also get them on the phone and the entire delivery department is very good.

One caveat though. If you decide to get glazed cabinets, be careful. They are hard to do right and sometimes the glaze can be a little unpredictable. I ordered a bisque glazed cabinet which looks very different in different forms of light (incandescant yellowish, florescent looks ivory and halogen between the two). Also, the quality of the glaze application is tricky.
Also, I got a door with mitered molding which was a new style and they hadn?t gotten the manufacturing down. They redid everything for me but it was a royal PIA. If you order mullion doors, also they may ship separately, but I think the Lowes people guide you through that.

This may be too much information, but I wish you good luck.

  6. I also had a great experience with lowes for two different kitchen orders. I don’t recall the lady’s name who helped me on the order, but she was very good…I went with Diamond , all-plywood for the more high end of the two kitchens, and Kraftmaid for the other… both are good.
Some people on this site are big on ikea, but I find them not to be as solidly built, and didn’t seem noticably cheaper. Also people sometimes complain about the “home depot” type look, but that’s just one type of cabinet face out of many that are available..

  7. I had a very good experience ordering kraftmaid through Lowes. Alicia is the best kitchen planner there. I also upgraded to the plywood interiors with all wood doors. It looks great.

  9. Krafrtmaid is quite good. I agree with 1st poster-upgrade to plywood, it is worth every penny. I used it for my client and her kitchen looks great. You can get all kind of accessories as well. I ordered it thru Home Expo, so can not give any advise on Lowes. Just check the order carefully in any case.
