I have a huge ditch in my bathroom floor as the result of a plumbing misadventure and want to replace the missing tiles instead of re-tiling the whole bathroom. I’m looking for those old, white (porcelain or ceramic) 6-sided tiles that are less than an inch across. I thought they’d be easy to find, but they seem as rare as angels. Does anyone know who might sell such things? Thanks in advance for any guidance you might be able to provide.

  1. If your still looking for that tile I know someone who can help you find some. I used to install quite a bit of that stuff. In Chicago we called it white prcelain mosaic – hex. Johnson flooring in Berwyn Illinois. They may even have some still in stock.

  4. Nemo is good; I also like Bella Tile in the East Village. The generally have no minimum qty, either, which is nice if you just need small amt.

FYI, I think you will have to buy new, rather than salvage; tiles this small are too hard to save.

  5. I second Nemo Tile in Manhattan. I used small white hex tile in my bathrooms. They have it in stock in several colors, patterns, glazes.

  6. You know, even if you find them, they will probably not match your worn floor. The degree of shine and brightness will be different then any replacement tile. It’s like matching a false tooth to the rest of the teeth, if they don’t pick the right shade of tooth color, it jumps out as being too bright and new.
