Parquet Floors
I would like to install about 400 sq ft of parquet floor in my LR and DR. “Versailles” pattern or similar. Anyone have a resource for this? I can find an installer but can’t find a source for the floors anywhere. I think new would be easier than reclaimed, but I’m open.

Well, let’s see, it was a double parlor, probably 600 square feet or so and wood and labor, sanding and refinishing was 7,000 dollars. I don’t know if he would charge me that again, after it was all over because it was very labor intensive, but probably evened out for him since he is doing my whole house. Actually that is outrageously cheap considering other quotes I got (17,000, 11,000 etc.). I got to know quite a few wood guys in Brooklyn and they really run the gamut. I met a couple of flim flam men, I can give you their names but I hestitate to post them here. This guy is my general contractor and he did my house (should say is doing – we are not done yet…). You are welcome to come see it when I take the paper off (still doing work). Also, go to Premium floors to the showroom – they are pretty nice, it’s the guys in the store downstairs who are the grouches and ask them to show you some stuff to give you ideas. Good luck.
New Poster: How much was that Donatella? For how many sq ft? Sounds nice
Premium floors in Brooklyn has everything you need in terms of flooring. I had my contractor lay a parquet floor (don’t know what Versailles Pattern is ) but we had 12 inch squares (each strip was standard width 2 1/4 inch I think), surrounded by vertical strips and a strip of walnut and a strip of mahoghany. We used clear red oak and it was a very nice job. Premium Floors people never went to charm school but they sell the highest quality stuff and you can get anything there. I decided to take up the old stuff I had down there out (100+ years old but a real wreck) which was sad at first, but the new floor is beautiful and the exact same pattern as the original so it works. Good luck.
