Hello–

I need to lawyer up. Anyone have a really good tenant rights lawyer suggestion?

Long, long, long story short: My landlord is trying to keep over $4k of our money due to what he claims is a flea infestation in the apt after we left. My pets do not have fleas. LL is replacing wall-to-wall carpet in a huge space and trying to do it on my dime. HELP! Thanks.

  1. If you haven’t moved out already, you should take the pets to the vet and get a dated letter than says that your pets do not have fleas – just as added proof.

  2. If the landlord allowed pets, was aware you had them, and especially if you put down a pet deposit, then you should argue “normal wear and tear” for anything your pets might have done. As long as she agreed to let you have pets then she wouldn’t win in court. And she would know that, so get a lawyer to just send a letter to her.
