Home Depot Complaints
Has anyone every complained to Home Depot and got results? If so, where do you send the complaints? We are having a terrible time with a special delivery and the customer service is awful. Has anyone every complained to Home Depot and got results? If so, where do you send the complaints? We are having a terrible time with a special delivery and the customer service is awful. (We’ve tried dealing with the store.) We’ll be taking our business to the non-corporate entities in the future, but for now we need our sheets of tile. With the service we’ve received so far, simply finding an employee competent enough to handle a refund is most likely out of the question.
I’ve had lots of delays with Home Depot too, but for the convenience and good prices, I’d say they’re worth it. I’ve never considered buying tile at HD. There are so many speciality tile stores with fair prices, why bother?
Bottom line: Get stuff at HD which you don’t have to special order.
I would never order anything from HD. They are not about customer service and will never be. That is the trade off for lower prices. If it’s not on the shelf, shop at a different store!
“It is a good thing H D does not sell guns.”
LOL–If they did:
1. No one at the store would be able to tell you where to find them.
2. If you bought one it would probably explode in your hands the first time you tried to fire it 🙂
For the rest of my life, I will not buy a ball of string from Home Depot. I have had several run ins recently with Home Depot — a major one with a kitchen — see my post a couple of months ago:
http://brownstoner.com/forum/archives/2006/07/home_depot_kraf.html
They wouldn’t take back the kitchen, but in the end, the manufacturing co. replaced it completely and I got 50% of my money back as well. I went directly to the Store Manager and since Home Depot has a thoroughly dysfunctional phone system, among other things, I went to the store and complained directly to him. Bottom line they were so disorganized that I just went to the store and waited for him to finish meetings. I called that “Customer Care” number — useless basically. They just call the store manager, but it can’t hurt. I called the NYC Consumer Affairs. I complained separately to the manufacturer and also called the credit card to protest. It was a Home Depot card (Citibank) but they operate like AMEX and I filed a protest, which got their attention. In the end, the Store Manager met with the District Manager and authorized my refund. Also, they had the manufacturer visit my home (twice) and I made that poor man’s life hell until they agreed to give me a totally new kitchen and he personally delivered it and opened every box.
The other experience happened around the same time and involved a special delivery of sliding Stanley mirrored doors. I got them damaged. I went nuts trying to get them to take them back, they did, ordered a replacement set which arrived even more banged up and damaged than the first. That is when I went into Xena Warrior princess mode and went to the store again and nabbed the Delivery manager who gave me a 175 dollar refund (doors 300+ dollars and I paid delivery fees also). Can you believe that they delivered mirrored doors on a flat bed truck with pipes and lumber? I wondered why my cell phone bill was so high that month and I realized I spent half my day on hold with Home Depot; just scheduling the pickups and deliveries was hellish.
Amount of money in question was close to $15,000.
Anyway, poster is right. Damn right they don’t sell guns. Like I said I will not buy masking tape there. I spent most of my renovation money in Lowes, which is much better. And Pintchik on Bergen is wonderful.
My experience was with the Hamilton Avenue HD.
Key people: Store Manager Ron Otto, Assistant Manager Jordana Oz….sky (sorry I forgot),
Delivery Manager (Frank…..). NYC District Manager Barry Williams, Staten Island
Good luck.
I have two entries coming up on the Gates Reno detailing why I think Home Depot sucks bigtime. If I had a dollar for every minute I’ve spent on hold with them in the past two months…well, it still wouldn’t be worth it.
I just searched online for the doorbell system I want. It was available only two places, and Home Depot had it for $40 cheaper than the other place. I went with the other place.
My advice to you would be to get the tile elsewhere and then deal with getting a refund from HD separately. If you wait to resolve things with them you will be waiting a long, long time.
It’s good when anonymous don’t trash a forum.
If you have nothing good to say please say nothing at all.
It is a good thing H D does not sell guns.
Is there any alternative to these places for the do-it-yourselfers in this city? We have a great local Hardware store, Pinchick, but feel like we have to rely on this awful chain stores for anything beyond what they carry. I wonder how they survive in NYC.
Try 1-800-553-3199. It’s the “customer care” # from the HD website. Good luck–Home Depot sucks IMO.
