Racoons have been digging in my backyard lawn. Lately it has been getting worse and last night I when I got up to go to the bathroom at 3:30 I was suprised to find it was 3 of them. The damage has been getting worse (digging holes, turning things over) but recently they’ve been f*cking with my tomatoes!

I already have a water-scarecrow, so the cat doesn’t use my herb garden for a toilet anymore, but the coons are not deterred. In fact, one morning I woke to find something had dismantled the sprinkler mechanism.

From what I can tell from making a couple of phone calls to the city is that they won’t do anything unless they’re rabid or injured.

Any ideas, experiences? Thanks – greenwood slope

  1. greenwood slope? hum, that’s my neighborhood, though i’ve never heard it refered to that way.

yes, we, too, had a trio of racoons in our back patio. proximity to the cemetary isn’t helping.

i went out and bought a couple rolls of chicken wire, then cut up pieces of wire and wrapped it around all my pots, bamboo, etc. if the racoons can’t get to the dirt, they can’t dig. they’re digging cause they’re looking for food.

    good luck
