Renter's Insurance Recommendations
Hi — My husband and I are new landlords. For a lease we just executed with a tenant, we required them to take out renter’s insurance. I would like to be able to recommend vendors/companies to our tenants. Can anyone share any good affordable policies/companies? Thanks so much.

I also require all renters to get renters insurance. That way their belongings are covered with their own policy. I usually suggest Liberty Mutual – pretty cheap – about 150 for the year.
Actually, it’s a good idea to require the renter’s to get their own insurance. Otherwise they will go after the owner’s insurance to get reimbursed for anything. Our attorney & brokers suggested it. Our tenant’s had a robbery in their apartment & had no insurance to replace their items. They were inquiring about ours to replace their items. We are not eager to have claims (especially not ours) on our policies given the climate of insurance companies these days.
Yah. I fail to see why you care whether or not their belongings are insured. Sounds silly, really.

That’s interesting? How does this help you? Your home owners insurance will cover any damage to your rental unit. Renters insurance covers your tenants personal items only. I have had tenants buy renters insurance. I would check out Met Life.
