My original parquet floors have water damage from a long time ago. When I sanded them, around the nails were black stains. I know this is a common problem. I tried Oxylic Acid and Borax as a neutralizer but it didn’t work. Is there another option? Or should I just replace the area with individual pieces of what looks like red oak?
Are the black stains from iron in the nails? If they are you can try Whink, which is an amazing rust remover. Then you can try some hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Make a paste and let it sit for a little while. That might work.
I’ve had that problem too. I ended up replacing the boards that had bad water stains. The areas that were subtle I just left.
