I’m looking at a conversion of a 4 unit apartment building c. 1914 to condos. Presently there is one boiler and one thermostat for the whole building. I am familiar with an object found in British flats called a combination or “combi” boiler. It provides the hot water for the radiators as well as for the bathrooms and kitchen and laundry. It is small enough to go in the “airing cupboard” – i.e. it is inside the condo itself, not in the basement. I think something like this might be a good solution for our building, as each unit has a good sized hall closets. Problem is, I don’t know what they are called over here – can you help? Also, anyone with experience of using them over here? Any potential problems with using them with the original cast-iron radiators?
I mean impossible to estimate *without* a site visit.
Tough week.
I’m sorry. It’s the Minuteman II. The boiler will cost around $2,500.
Installation is impossible to estimate with a site visit
The Viessman combi boilers are THE cat’s miaow! I wish I knew who would install one and provide support.

Munchkin is a well known brand. Check prices of several boilers at http://www.radiantheatproducts.com.
For 4 separate units, you’ll need a pretty small boiler in each; our 4 floor steam heated house has 150kbtu, so the smallest, 50kbtu, is probably enough.
Might be less expensive to go with a 4-zone single boiler, but of course you’d be splitting the heating costs which might not be fair to all.
Master Plumber, how much do these systems usually go for? Also, you said Revolution but linked to the Minuteman II which looks like what you were referring to, can you confirm?
Thanks
They’re called “combi” boilers here, too. There are several on the market in the states but I prefer the Burnham Revolution.

It comes down to product support. Some great overseas companies, like Buderus, make similar products but when there is a problem, the reps here tend to be understaffed and repair parts are limited.
or this one
“Designed to produce endless hot water and radiant heating for smaller homes.”
