We need to have our very old and original brownstone doors refurbished. Right now we have to sort of slam them shut and then push them in while we insert and turn the key to unlock the doors. The outer doors require a bit of force to open and close, while the interior set merely hang wide open and never remain closed. I think they have to be rehung? Or they need new hinges? Anyone have recommendations for a carpenter or contractor who has experience with old doors. They’re still in great shape despite being over a hundred years old.
One thing to look at is whether these doors are symptoms of settling of your house and whether it’s appropriate to consider rebracing or jacking up your supports in the basement.
