Custom wood doors
I am looking for a company to reproduce my wood front doors on a brownstone in Park Slope. We’ve been in touch with Heights Woodworking, but they are very unreliable. Suggestions?

I have used heightwoodworking in the past.Maybe they were too busy at the time and your estimate went undetected. You should really give them a secon chance.Their work is great. They are very experienced.
there’s a custom door company at the end of 8th avenue, next to greenwood cemetary. i think it’s drollet, or dellet, or something like that. from what i’ve seen they make beautiful doors and could probably do your custom job. expect to pay, though, when i asked, the owner said it would be about 2gs for a front door.

I would try Tennyson St. John — 917.684.7817. He is building shelves for us right now. Well priced, detail-oriented, reliable, and can make items that look original. – Rachel
Try Park Slope Craftsmen. They make really beautiful reproductions and also do restoration work. I don’t have their tel. # but they’re listed.
We used our contractor Marek Wesolowski (he has done a variety of work for us), and he is super efficient and reliable. Our brownstone is in Carroll Gardens.
Frankly the unreliable part to the whole was getting ourselves around to ordering the hardware/mortise locks, etc.
We just love our new doors – Marek took the time to measure everything perfectly, and though the wood was new but the frame was old, he did it in a way that it all worked out beautifully.
Our tenants were initially skeptical and concerned since the original doors were these huge heavy beautiful doors that thru years of neglect were on their last leg. We looked at renovating the doors, but it would be too much trouble and expense for little gain.
If you wish, feel free to call Marek– he does full renovations as well, but I think he is also interested in this type of incremental work too (at least with us).
His number (cell) is (917) 545-1383.
