After much aparment shopping, I have found two lofts, one near the Brooklyn Bridge on Henry Street and one on Tillary Street near John Barry Park. I will be commuting by foot each day to my office on Jay Street. As someone who has never visited Brooklyn, I would greatly appreciate any information regarding the neighborhoods of these locations- perhaps theatres, restaurants, safety. Thanks!

  1. My fiance and i are moving to new york probably in the next couple of months. We would really like to find a loft right near the brooklyn bridge. can anyone help in our search, we will be in town looking around this next week from wednesday the 10th through the weekend.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

  2. Plus, you can walk to Henry’s End! Best pre-Smith Street fever restaurant in Brooklyn. Specializes in career waiters, by the glass premium wines, and wildebeeste steaks :.>

  3. Henry Street. Definitely. Your quality of life will be better. Living on Tillary will be loud, and with all those cars, who knows if you could ever open your windows because of all the soot? I used to live on Atlantic, and even though we kept the windows closed, there was a constant layer of soot on the window sills (and in our lungs, I’m sure).

Plus Henry just has more amenities — more restaurants, services, it’s more of a ‘neighborhood’ if that’s what you’re looking for.

  4. Henry by far. Quiet street, in Brooklyn Heights. Tillary is loud, constant traffic day and night, plus if you are east of Flatbush, there is nothing there and you are close to the projects.

  5. Thanks for the response! I was thinking that too. Regarding the walk between henry street near the bridge and the corner of jay and plymouth- is this a safe area and are there usually many people out? Thanks again! I am very excited for the move.

  6. Hmmm. My first instinct is to say that the Henry Street address is the more convenient and better choice. But it’s hard to say without knowing a bit more. As for the Tillary Street address, used to be that things along that stretch of Tillary east of Flatbush were pretty desolate. Henry street at least is nominally in Brooklyn Heights. That being said, I’ve known people who have lived in terrific loft spaces around Tillary- just not totally convenient is all. Maybe that’s changed, I don’t know.
