We have a fantastic, gigantic pocket door that we can’t use anymore (we converted its spot to an archway). It’s double-wide, about 100 yrs old (post victorian), red oak. Very good condition, with a few nail holes. about 5 ft wide by 8.5 feet tall. It has about 2 coats of paint on it, with thick shellac underneath.

Here are some doors of the same design and material that I recently infrared-stripped and am in the process of re-shellacking. Heat stripping works well on these doors due to the shellac. No paint is in the grain. Then you just soak them in alcohol and the old shellac comes off. “Easy,” at least compared to most stripping.

This door really deserves a spectacular home. I thought we could put it somewhere else, but we can’t.

I’m in beautiful Sunset Park, and if you want the thing, you’ll need to have two or three beefy men and a big truck–it weighs about 400 lbs. (no kidding).
