Finishing Hardwood Floors
Hello I have old wood floors in ym brownstone, but don’t have the money to sand and refinish them right now. Has anyone tried just refinishing them without sanding them down? Any suggestions on what I can do to make them look better without spending a lot of money? Thanks!

its not expensive if you do it yourself. A couple of hundred dollars max..
You don’t have to sand your floors to refinish them. Sometimes a really good cleaning is all that’s necessary. Or, if they already have old polyurethane on them, you could consider using a chemical stripper before refinishing with fresh poly. Do some online research — there’s lots of info about this available. There are also books (from Ortho, Sunset, Black & Decket etc) on wood refinishing that describe the process. Go to Lowes, Home Depot or B&N and take a look.
i did this once in an apartment (i removed ugly carpet, floors were scrathed and bare in spots. landlord would not refinish): the hardware store recommended a combination stain/polyurethane. i can’t for the life of me remember the brand name. comes in varied shades and dries very quickly. i only applied one coat, but two would have been better. comes in a squareish can, and very simple to use.
good luck!
