We recently bought a brownstone in Brooklyn Heights that will require significant work. Fortunately the plumbing and electrical are in good shape but it will be a significant project as we are putting in a new kitchen, 5 new bathrooms, French doors leading from rear dining area to backyard, and adding an extension to a stairwell. We are going to start interviewing archiects and build/design firms and wonder if anyone has an opinion on any of these firms and their ability to do high end work on a large project. The firms are Perfect Renovation (Brooklyn based), John Hatheway Architects (Brooklyn based), DeLaCour & Ferrara (Brooklyn based), Baxt|Ingui (Manhattan based). Any and all feedback appreciated. Thx

We are doing a renovation project and are talking to some of the same people as you are …. if you would be willing to chat with me and share your own perspectives, I would be appreciative. Please call me at 212 526 2664….

  2. We’ve used Hatheway on two different jobs and have no complaints. However, had an unfortunate exp. reg. a Contractor f/u, John stated at the time that it appeared it was not the fault of the contractor. When it was later found to be the contractor’s fault John did agree.

Otherwise, Hatheway is good peoples all around. Just stay on top of everything as all of these architects have multiple projects and are not on top of every detail. You are always your best advocate.

  3. Try this architect, Jill Bouratoglou. She designed and built her home, in Brooklyn, with her husband 917.309.3682. A neighbor of mine used her and she was inexpensive, professional and creative

  4. I am not impressed with the job that Ferrara did at the Y on 9th street. I have not used them personally, but I have used an architect who left that firm and was not overjoyed. Architect was competent- nothing more.
