Floor Guy Needed

We have about 500sq ft of wood floors to refinish on the 2nd floor of our brownstone. I think they are oak, not original to the house. This is in the rental unit. They are just worn, not damaged. Can anyone suggest someone? Or, does this sound like a job that is small enough to…

We have about 500sq ft of wood floors to refinish on the 2nd floor of our brownstone. I think they are oak, not original to the house. This is in the rental unit. They are just worn, not damaged. Can anyone suggest someone? Or, does this sound like a job that is small enough to rent a sander from Lowes or Home Depot and do it myself?   2. We called Verrazano and were impressed with Richard, our sales rep. But our painters and our realtor had strongly negative experiences with Verrazano (including a lawsuit stemming from shoddy work) and recommended not using them. Pressed for time (a tenant moving in), we ended up going with Verrazano anyway and were pleased with the job.

    In retrospect, if I had more time and money, I would have gone with Home Depot’s local contractor. He was *extremely* knowledgable and thorough, pointing out several issues that Verrazano missed. Small wonder: he took 2 hours to measure and inspect the space before offering a quote.

  4. Don’t rent from Home Depot – their machines suck. Rent from a place called TOTAL TOOLS. It is on Nostrand just South of Myrtle – they have good solid tools and are good guys. I don’t know if they will remember but you can say Amy from Bed-Stuy with the red hair who rented a sander for 1.5 months last summer recommended you and says hi. We did all of ours – you can do it.
