Resurfacing Clawfoot Tub
Has anyone had experience resurfacing the porcelain on an old clawfoot iron tub? If so, who does this sort of work and how much does it generally cost? Thank you

I was driving down Coney Island ave last week and saw a sign for a place that refirbishes bathtubs. Sorry, I can’t remeber the name or if they’re any good but they are on Coney island ave between L & M. If you’re heading south, they’ll be on the right hand side.
Good luck
Thanks mhamil. I was thinking of actual porcelain refinishing as opposed to an epoxy. I appreciate the tip.
Nu porcelain repair does an okay job, but not fabulous. its not their fault, its just that if you want to do it right you should have it reporcelained in a furnace. Try Custom Ceramic Coatings 618-475-2710. it involves shipping the tub to them but that is not so expensive, and in the end you will get a perfect finish. They set up the shipping.
Thank you for the tips.
call like nu porcelain repair they have any office in long island and you would be looking at about 300 -500 dollars
I had one done, but it was 8 or 9 years ago. Around $200 back then.
The good news is, it has held up really well – much better than I would have thought. I don’t use abrasive cleansers on it, as instructed. I even put a towel down to wash the dog, which is probably overkill. (They have a reputation for scratching)
It took an afternoon. A guy came, sealed off the room, and started sanding. He totally sanded the finish off, then put on goo and hit it with french fry lights to bake. I looked up the receipt sometime this summer — I think I posted the company on this forum. I got them out of the phonebook.
I painted the exterior of the tub with oil paint. The refinisher sprayed the clawed feet as well as the interior. It was a great deal at the time. My bathroom is in the My Brownstoner section of this site — you can (sort of) see the tub…”Brooklyn Rustic”
