I’m trying to get some quotes on renovating my hardwood kitchen floors. The kitchen is about 200 sf, and the wood floor has been patched, painted, and a big piece of linoleum was glued on to it many years ago — it’s a bit of a mess right now. I’d like to try and save the original floor, which is really quite lovely underneath all that mess, but I have no idea what kind of money I should expect to pay to restore them … or how this cost would compare with getting a brand-new wood floor installed.
Can anyone recommend a good floor restorer? Any rough estimates of what this might cost would be greatly appreciated.
I haven’t been up to anything today. I don’t care. I’ve just been staying at home not getting anything done. Basically not much happening right now. Maybe tomorrow. I guess it doesn’t bother me.
Some questions: (a) are you going to remove the cabinets? (b) is the floor straight (enough)?
If you just want to refinish the part that you can see, it should be fairly cheap… you might have trouble finding someone willing to do such a small job. $1000 about, I would say. One day to sand it and remove the linoleum, 2 half-days to finish it.
We had to refinish a floor that had like 5 layers of tile & linoleum, plus some plywood board with a bunch of nails… so anything is doable.
