We can’t be 100% sure that this is legit, but it sure looks it and the source vouched heavily for it. Tell us what you really think, Bertha!

Subject: Daniel Goldstein and the 7 year itch
To: [REDACTED]

Finally, the itch that was Daniel Goldstein has been scratched and scratched out. After almost seven years of flawed strategies, smear campaigns, stupid tactics, disingenuous rhetoric and total disregard for people who have lived in the downtown Brooklyn community for years before he even thought about coming here; finally he got what he really wanted. A Deal. Not for the community he claimed to love so much, but for the only beneficiary of his community of one, himself, Double Dealing Danny Goldstein. How utterly despicable for him to be in the newspaper today whining that he did not have enough time to move, and had nowhere to go because he was being stiffed by the State and Forest City Ratner, when low and behold, all the time, he was negotiating, not for the community , but for himself. Well good riddance and don’t let the door hit ya’. Low and moderate income people have had to wait years for housing while he obstructed the Atlantic Yards Project that could have been well over half done by now. He never had to worry about housing so he did’nt care how long other people had to wait. Behold, the Gentrifier. He has slandered and denigrated not only me but my organization and my members relentlessly. What benefit has he delivered to the community? None except for his own pocket. Well, the housing at Atlantic Yards will be built, and the day after he moves out, which I hope will be sooner rather than later, the building that he squatted in these past years should be razed to ground immediately, and salt poured into the soil, so that never again can the likes of one of the biggest shakedown artists in Brooklyn return. We will still be here, we will still be fighting for the all the people that Danny spurned and used for his own enrichment. We hope that now everyone in Brooklyn and New York can see him for what he really is and can see what his actions cost Brooklyn. I hope whatever he settled for was worth the pain and misery he caused to so many people who just wanted a decent place to live in Brooklyn and who just wanted a decent job and a place for their family. Now that the flim flam man is gone, they can finally see it on the horizon.

  1. This statement is insane; Acorn is a true embarrassment. DG would have to have some independent wealth or family money to run a long campaign like this and there’s nothing wrong with him taking a payout for his property. The problem was him not knowing that he didn’t know enough. I’ve had bosses like that, I’ve known other heads of not-for-profits like that and it’s the worst. Perhaps other leaders would have failed too but with a personality trait like that, failure is a sure thing.

  2. I doubt that this email is legit, but even if it is, it’s a perfect summation of Daniel Goldstein. (and for the record, I think Bertha Lewis is an idiot)

  3. Brooklynista, thank you for your thoughtful and reasoned post. Montrose Morris, you as well. FGC, your input and perspective were well-put.

The class and racial cards were excellently played by Ratner’s PR team. He ran circles around us well-connected middle and upper-class white people. I gotta hand it to him. He screwed us thoroughly. In a Machiavellian way, it was quite a feat.

And even today, we’re not talking about the horrible folly that is the current AY plan, but whether an individual’s behavior meets exacting standards. Amazing.

  4. Gee…

Neither the renters, nor bertha nor daniel got fair market value. any real analysis would have probably given im 50% more. But I wasn’t the one playing chicken with a judge that processes these things for lunch.

Daniel stuck it out based on the intent of NY law and that intent was not upheld by the courts. Daniel knows it. The courts know it. I know it. AY supporters know it. And Ratner knows it.

Unfortunately for daniel, since he didnt say right off the bat that $X was going to DDDB he lost an opportunity to get off unscathed in the press. He could have made some cash and helped the cause he just abandoned and effectively left for dead.

I just wish he didn’t mention his family in his press conference. It just reinforces that society is an equal trade off for your kids private school education.

But daniel was part of a controlled burn. There are lots of names on walls to take down politcally and economically for this. Best served cold they say.

  5. “The Third Man” is easily one of the best films ever made. Absolutely terrific. And, it’s about a writer! How could you go wrong?

I will check out “The Trial.”

  6. acorn is a total corrupt joke of an organization, but that statement was awesome.

who the f was that guy to stop progress.

    and, corey is totally right.
