Last week St. Joseph’s College requested permits to build a new athletic facility on Vanderbilt Avenue between Willoughby and Dekalb, and the renderings above, via an article in the school’s magazine, give a sense of what’s planned. The spot in question is currently the college’s student parking lot. The ground floor of the facility will be home to NCAA-regulation basketball and volleyball court, and the building will also house the athletic department’s offices and a fitness center. According to the St. Joseph’s article on the build, the design involves “a combination of brick, metal and glass illuminated from within,” so the facility will “literally glow at night.” Think it’ll work in the context of the neighborhood?
