All the energy it has been devoting trying to sell Brooklyn on its Atlantic Yards plan has not prevented Forest City Ratner from teeing up some other high profile projects in the borough. This morning, the New York Sun reports of a one-million-square-foot building mixed use tower that will take up an entire city block on Jay Street between Tillary and and Johnston and be built on a site currently marked by what the paper calls “dollar stores”. Made possible by the recent rezoning of the area, the building will house the New York City College of Technology on the first eight floors while the upper floors will be luxury condos. We’ve made our best guess of the site’s location above–let us know if you think we got it right.

  1. as recently as 8/23 (the first public hearing on Atlantic Yards), a senior official at the College of Technology told me two buildings at the site. CUNY would provide the land; Forest City would construct the buildings; each would end up with a building. there will be no tears shed for the loss of Kitgord. (obviously, the new building in the lower right of the box would remain.)

  2. From school publication—>
“Soon, Klitgord Center will be coming down and ground broken for a new mixed-use academic/commercial tower that will provide more space and state-of-the-art classrooms and labs for ourhealthcare and other programs. A unique public/private partnership, the new facility will affordthe College with naming and fundraising opportunities.”

  3. I’m confused because the article says something about Dollar Stores which I can’t picture on this block. Further down Jay toward Fulton yes.
Also article says 1st 8 floors will be school – and rest condo – But how many more floors are there?
Block or 2 up Jay St. behind Concord Village – parking lot was recently sold where expected high-rise condo to be built. Only bodes well for Concord Village – for years seemed separate little isolated island but with Dumbo development, and these projects a major improvement.

  4. Isn’t the New York City College of Technology currently right across from this site. What will they do with their current location? Raze it and put up new towers? The current NYCCT bldg is not that attractive but I could also see it being converted into condos or rentals.
The lot that you have highlighted had an outdoor park (basketball court). I was surprised that they razed it to make way for new condos.
