The SCA construction crew has really kicked into high gear over on Poplar Street in Brooklyn Heights, where the 18,000-square-foot addition to the popular P.S. 8 elementary school is rising. Just five weeks ago we documented the foundation going in, and now the third story is getting framed out. They’ve got a rather impressive crane in the act—you can see it sticking out way above the townhouses of Brooklyn Heights from our office in Dumbo.

PS 8 Parents Pitched Plans for New Addition [Brownstoner]
BK realestate veteran, big change is also the incredible job the principal has done in turning around the school. This is an incredible success story, albeit one can say it’s now a victim of its own success as so many parents want to now send their kids to PS 8.
school is now turning people away
big change is dumbo kids, within the zone, but even some of these are being turned away plus economic downtown has cause some to pull out of privates
Rob, ???
I have enormous respect for anyone who sends their kids to this school. Knowing what I know about elementary school in the Heights, that is.
rob – i’m always surprised by how many kids are at the school. i think alot of families don’t live in the zone but their parents do (i.e. grandparents) so they use the address. also there are alot of apartment buildings, where the rent controlled apartments get passed down to the children.
are there really that many grandparents raising their own kids’ kids in brooklyn heights that they have to keep adding more school space?!?
